2017: The Year of the Spartan

It didn’t take long to convince me to do what about I’m about to tell you. It was mostly my idea. Well, half of it. A friend of mine reached out in one of the fitness groups I used to follow, that she wanted to fly in (from another country) and do a Spartan Beast. Here. In the states. She asked that I go with her. Plus a few other girls from the group as well.

Now, my experience with Spartan is not a good one. Granted I learned a lot. I made a lot of new friends. And discovered what everyone’s obsession with the race from hell is all about. After that race, I vowed never to do another one. Until she asked. You know those meme’s that are out there saying how miserable the person is while doing the race, they finish, and someone goes “Hey, you want to do another one?” and the person suffering goes “Sure!” I’m that person.

Someone says “hey there’s a race!” I say “When and where?”

Why I do this myself, I have no fucking clue. So here I am. Gearing up for a Spartan beast at the end of 2017. While people were saying “I’m in,” one girl reached out to me. And we talked about doing the trifecta, especially since we’re going to be running the beast at the end of the year.

There we were. Dedicating ourselves to three races. Illinois, Michigan, and one of the Carolinas (don’t ask me which one, I can’t remember). Then this happened. Spartan announced a race in Florida. Central Florida. In December. Found out it was a beast. Florida is mostly flat, so I brought the suggestion to my new friend. We decided to go for it. Then realized that’s two beasts and we’re only doing one super and one sprint. And like an idiot, I suggested two more on top of the three we’re already going to do.

Three races turned into six. Which, funny enough, was my plan last year. It was going to be based on how I felt about the Sprint. Hated it. But now here I am, signing up with six more races. Because of the six races, I’m opting out of the majority of the road races I normally do on a yearly basis, with the only exception being the annual turkey trot.

Here I am, making it public knowledge. I, Kristy Kronas, will be participating in six Spartan races in the year of 2017. Dedicating 2017 to the year of the Spartan. If anyone wants to join us in this ‘crusade’ please, let me know.
